Description: 4 min. — A lament that leads to a fast-paced mouth music piece inspired by Macedonian dance rhythms.

Written in 2006 for Macedonian-American choreographer, Regina Klenjoski for her premiere of “Black Drim”. “Makedonska” is the story of the oldest couple – matriarch and patriarch – of a large Macedonian family. They are last to leave a family gathering one night. After all the younger family members are gone, they lament their family’s many troubles together at first, then they begin to remember the social dances of their younger years, and they rise together to dance. They dance, recalling how they fell in love, the beautiful things that began this family so many years ago. Their heavy burdens and responsibilities melt slowly away. Dancing, they lift each other up to joy.
